Okay, so here is the difficult question of the week:
Q: What would your prefer: reading your favorite book over and over again until you got sick of it OR reading 100s of mediocre books? And why?

A: Really!? So difficult. I actually sometimes read a "mediocre book" and end up liking it or at least thinking about it later. Which, anyone who writes wants... A memorable book. So, I guess, I'd read 100s of mediocre books. I do it already. lol. I actually can't think of one favorite book. But I do have a few favorite series so... is that cheating!? :)

So begins the latest whirlwind romance from the New York Times bestselling authors of Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on a favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. But is Dash that right guy? Or are Dash and Lily only destined to trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations across New York? Could their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions? Or will they be a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?

Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have written a love story that will have readers perusing bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own.

My review:
Firstly, I loved the book "Naomi and Eli's No Kiss List" that these two also paired up for. So, I figured I'd love this one too...Not so much.
I didn't LOVE it... But I really really liked it.

When left to spend Christmas without her parents--who are in Fiji, the traditional foods & fun (oh, the horror), Lily's older brother, Langston, has decided he's had enough of Lily & her obsession with.. Weird things, he takes matters into his own hands. More like a red notebook. That he fills with clues for the poor lad who comes along & picks it up.

Dash just happens to be the one who picks up the book. He too, spending Christmas parent free, gives in and begins the red notebooks shenanigans. And that's where the fun begins.

I would love to have such an adventure leaving the notebook in the most random places for your "pen pal" to find, complete a task, and wait for the task you'll need to complete next task.

The vocabulary used in this book is rather ridiculous. I just don't see teenagers speaking the way they do in the book. Sarcasm & quick-wit is one thing, but the actual vocabulary throws me off. I get that they're wanting to create this world where people, especially today's youth, actually read & just so happen to know and use a dictionary (ahem, OED--Oxford English Dictionary)! But... Come on!!
I would like to see this on a screen, but it's no Nick & Norah!

By the time it ended it felt too wrapped up. I honestly didn't see much connection with them. Not enough to appear as close as they'd become.

I LOVED their friends (Dash) and family (Lily). Hilarious. This whole book was hilarious & I laughed out loud numerous times throughout.
Great book for thinking... About possibilities, love, Christmas, friends, family & words. (have a dictionary handy!)

-This book was sooo cute. There was so much too it, despite how short it was!

- I expected this book to be good, but I didn't expect it to be that good! It KIND OF reminded me of Amy & Roger's Epic Detour, which I loved!

• The File on Angelyn Stark by Catherine Atkins (review to come on goodchoicereading.com)
- This book was simply written. Not much to it at all. I read it in a few hours, but it still had depth. (I'll link my review to it later!)

Currently Reading:

• Dash and Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn & David Levithan
- I loved Naomi and Eli's No Kiss List by these two and I am loving this one. But for some reason this very short book (260 pages) seems to be superrr long...!?

Q: Define what characteristics your favorite books share. Do they all have a kick ass heroine or is the hot love interest the Alpha Male?

It's probably that they have a girl who's lost and someone (friend, love, family, animal) comes along and helps them through whatever. There's love. Basically something I can relate to.

I have my favorites where there's nothing in common with my life, but those are fun reads. Nothing I really read for depth or to really remember. Mainly to forget.

Review:
When we first get into the book, it immediately jumps into the funeral for Harper's sister, June. And there we get a feel of Harper, her mother, her best friend, her [toxic] aunt, and Mr. Jacob Tolan.

From the beginning of the book until the three kids set off for California was a little slow for me, but as soon as they leave, I did not want to put this book down!
It's no surprise that contemporary novels are my favorite, and this book is a prime example why.
They're real.
The pain and anguish Harper felt about losing her sister is depicted the exact way I would handle it. Blocking it out. Pretending it wasn't real.
When Harper first meets Jacob, the cliché what is with this weirdo, I can't stand him etc. etc. etc is there, but I like that. A lot.
I thought that this book was going to be dark and kind of depressing, but it really wasn't. It had it's moments where my eyes began to sting with tears over her turmoil, but for the most part I found it fun and rather funny. Sarcasm ALWAYS wins with me! And Harper enjoys her sarcasm. It's a defense mechanism. (I can totally relate).

Jake was the kind of guy who sat quietly listening (read: obsessing) over his music while the world goes on around him. Only putting in his input when he felt it necessary, which wasn't too often. And with that, you get a feel of who he is as a person. When he let's you in, he doesn't have to say much, but you still completely understand what he's talking about. And the strength he (silently) gives Harper is amazing and beautiful.

Laney is the kind of friend you want, but don't want at the same time. She's there for you, loves you, gives you a reason to believe in all types of love. But who she is a person to herself makes you want to run. You feel like there's no way you can console her the same way she does for you. When Laney is given her own devastating news, I love the shift, still sad--but at least the focus, for awhile--is no longer on Harper. I love that Harper drops everything to help her, support her.

Harper. I relate to her so much it physically hurts. Yet, I relate to her sister even more. (Yes, the one who committed suicide.) I can't really begin to say exactly how amazing, honest, real, just (ugh) Harper is as a person. It actually kind of makes me emotional. Too many flashbacks and present emotions she brings out.

There is a journey they go through that obviously shifts and shapes their views towards their lives. It kind of reminded me of Amy and Roger's journey in Amy & Roger's Epic Detour.... But...not.

Please, read this book. I cannot wait for more from Harper Harrington!!

Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport's cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he's British, and he's in seat 18C. Hadley's in 18A.

Twists of fate and quirks of timing play out in this thoughtful novel about family connections, second chances and first loves. Set over a 24-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver's story will make you believe that true love finds you when you're least expecting it.

Review:
I featured this book in a WoW post and it's one of the first books I knew I'd be purchasing instead of going to the library. I could just tell I'd love it. I was right!
When a series of aggravating events causes Hadley Sullivan to miss her flight, she knows it'll look bad. Even with her claustrophobia, she'd rather be stuck in an airport that on a plane to attend the wedding of her father and his bride to be. Whom she's never met.
But after she begins to let her thoughts get the best of her, she decides it's time to move around until her next flight, there she meets Oliver and is first put off by the way he takes control, but soon finds herself oddly comfortable around him. When she learns that they're on the same plane, in the same row, she can't help but feel a sense of relief.
While on the plane Hadley opens up about her life and learns a bit about Oliver himself. Though he doesn't seem to let her in fully on his life, he still has a cool demeanor that distracts her from the impending doom that awaits her in the church.

At first I felt that their attraction and connection seemed a bit too sudden, though never forced, until you let yourself go like them and put yourself in their situation. It's a long plane ride, to a place that neither of them want to be, and add a dash of chemistry and a hint of humor and bam instant love connection.
Sort of.
When they arrive in London, it's apparent that these two will be meeting again soon, but even I didn't know how or when. And the surprise actually brought on tears. Sad then later on happy ones.
I didn't need a tissue or anything, but I did get a little emotional with this story.
It wasn't even the emotion between Hadley and Oliver but Hadley and everyone else she encounters in this book.

This is the first book I've read from Jennifer E. Smith, but it most certainly won't be my last!
I'd recommend this for a quick and fun read, perfect for Valentines Day!

Review:
Kate and her sister are basically forced (boo-hoo) to move to Paris with their grandmother and grandfather after a tragic accident takes the life of their mother and father. Though, Kate would enjoy a new look, she can't get out of her slump. I mean, how do you after losing both of your parents at the exact same time?
When Kate decides to venture out into the great outdoors, she sits at a little café and catches the eye of a cute boy and his friend across the street.
The strange attraction never leaves her mind and she can't seem to get away from, no matter how hard she tries.

Vincent is a boy with a lot to hide and I loved finding everything out as I read. I've never really read a "zombie" book, and though Vincent and his pals are considered Revenants... it's really just a glorified name for zombie. This isn't your gore, blood & guts type of book... which I like. I'm not very into those types of books.
This is a sweeter book that has the strength and depth of something worth remembering.
I enjoyed Kate's character and how she fought for herself and the ones she loved. Never forgetting her parents but not putting the ones who are here for her now out of her mind.
The relationship she develops with Vincent and his friends is amazing. And seems to be quite easy, enviable on any level. Real life, or in a book. I'd love that type of friendship with boys, girls, family, whoever.

I can't wait for the next book and hope that we get more of Kate's relationship with her sister and Paris.
I have a feeling about a little battle within the Revenant house, but I'm actually looking forward to it. If it were to happen!
I'll probably purchase the second book as soon as it comes out. So far, this series is hardback worthy! :)

I've always loved Bruno Mars. He has such a unique voice and style to his music. I recently (and finally) watched "Breaking Dawn Part 1" and after this song played, I had it stuck in my head! I listened to it before but not like I have since the movie. (Which by the way, I LOVED!!!)

-This book sounded so cute! I featured it in a WoW post and had to buy it as soon as it came out. I'm only about 57 pages in, but I'm sure I'll love it and will probably be done with it tonight or tomorrow! :) Love that it's set over a 24hr period. It's the first book I'm reading for my personal "Contemporary February" challenge!

Why I'm excited:
There just aren't enough contemporary books coming out this year, especially from debut authors. At least not ones I'm too excited about. But this one is very intriguing and I can't wait to read it! I may wait a month or so after the release to see the reviews.
I love that cover. And I love that dress she's wearing. If I saw this on a store shelf, I'd definitely be interested enough to pick it up!

The only reason I'm posting this one today is because my "Up Next" has changed. Otherwise... everything is exactly the same.
I have no idea why it is taking me so long to read Arcadia Awakens by Kai Meyer! I am almost done however!

I had a hard time choosing between two books, so I decided on the one with two covers I love. The second cover [with the read mask] is the kindle edition cover. There is a 3rd cover listed, but I'm not a fan of it, personally. This book is a 2012 YA Debut, so add it to your list! :)

Why I'm excited:
Contemporary Fiction will always be my favorite genre, but I also like reading about history. So, it stands that I'd love historical fiction. I'd prefer it in more of a contemporary fashion, but I love paranormal as well. This one seems to be in more of a contemporary fashion, meaning no paranormal... but I wouldn't be surprised if it was paranormal with the way that summary is written.
There are a few YA Historical Fiction novels coming out this year that I'm quite excited for but I decided to spotlight this one!

Contemporary February?!

I've [unofficially] declared February as "Contemporary February". I will read only contemporary books, preferably lovey-dovey ones in honor of Valentine's Day. Plus, my birthday is in February, so I get to read whatever the hell I want!

Because my Top 5 Playlist hasn't changed much this week, I decided to do another musical meme this week. This is "Tune in Tuesday" hosted by Ginger at GReads. I'll feature a song with a music video I absolutely love and think you should listen too!

I tried really really hard to not use a Kpop song and MV, but I just love this video. I haven't listened to this band much before, but this song and video have definitely won me over.

This is "전쟁이야 (This is War)" by MBLAQ. I could explain the video and song, but I think it's pretty self explanatory. Except the ending. I know what they're saying & I understand the video.... except the last 2 seconds. (P.S. You should really watch the live performance. LOVE that too!) If you do want me to explain, leave a comment. :)

Mara Dyer doesn't think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.
It can.
She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed.
There is.
She doesn't believe that after everything she's been through, she can fall in love.
She's wrong.

Review:
With the very vague summary, I didn't know what to expect when reading this book. I honestly bought the book for the cover. I chanced it. Before reading, I had to ask someone else who had already read what genre it was. She said "paranormal".... Even throughout the book, it didn't seem very paranormal to me. It just seemed like a girl who was crazy, seeing things. Possible coincidences.... Then, the ending came. Yeah, quite paramoral. The best kind!

Mara moves to Florida after she loses her two best friends and boyfriend in a building collapse. Though she can't remember exactly what happened, she still feels terribly guilty and hates being surrounded by their memory. Florida seems like a good idea at first, and then not so much... And then she meets Noah.

Ah, Noah! I loved that bloke (he's British). At first, I honestly did not see much of a connection between the two and though I didn't see it, I wanted him to stay in the book! So glad he did.

I was genuinely surprised by how this book made me feel the emotions I was supposed to feel. When Mara was anxious, I felt her anxiety. When she was scared, I was scared along with her. When she felt like she was going insane, I thought she was going insane.
One of the best parts about this book was that I was as clueless and left in the dark as Mara was. This is a prime example why 1st person POVs are my favorite to read!

I sometimes read the last sentence or two in a book before I actually begin it. Boy am I glad I didn't this time. That ending held it all. And it was so aggravating and shocking. I actually stared at the page for a few minutes after finishing wondering how the hell could it end like that!? The next book could come out tomorrow and it would not be soon enough! I will be pre-ordering it as soon as it's available.

Mara's relationship with her brothers and the way she handles her friends is actually actually heartwarming. And the comedy in this book is dark, but hilarious. Little things, but I laughed so hard. In the next minute I was anxious and excited to see what would happen next.

READ IT! Buy it. Hardback worthy. (I mean, GAWD that unbelievably gorgeous cover!)

Why I'm excited:

I loved Morgan Matson's debut novel Amy and Roger's Epic Detour, it was one of my favorite books of 2010. I've added it to my "To-Buy" list and will get it soon.

I will be pre-ordering Second Chance Summer in April, just so I can get it as soon as possible. I love contemporary books the most, and it's been awhile since I've been excited about the release of an upcoming contemporary novel.

Top 5 Songs Played This Week!

I'm back!! Yay!! Ugh, I think I've missed this meme the most. I LOVE music and love being able to share it with everyone.
I got a new iPod for Christmas and my computer, containing 99% of my music doesn't have a charger. So, these are basically the top 5 songs I have been listening to that I have now. (Cannot wait to get all of my music back.)

1. "너만을 보고 너만을 그리는" by Chocolat (listen) - Chocolat, pronounced as shaw-ko-la (French), is a new girl group in the Kpop world and so far, I am loving them. Especially this song. The English title is "In a Heartbeat" (though that is not the literal translation.) Melanie is my favorite. (Nod and pretend you know who that is or click here.) I can't wait for more from these girls!
2. "I Like It (English)" by Chocolat (listen) - Again, another song from Chocolat. This one has a Korean version (here), but I like the English one better. Which is really rare. I hope these girls keep up their fun and unique (to Kpop) vibe!
3. "나쁘다 (feat. 진실) by Tablo" (listen NOW) - OH MY GAWD this man is a complete lyrical genius. You don't even have to know Korean to get that! Just. UGH! I am in love with him and this album. I wish I had known about him while he was in the group Epik High! I could rave but... ugh. And Jinsil (the singer), her voice is GORGEOUS in this. Again, I knew nothing of her before this!! 나쁘다 [nappeuda] literally translates to bad. "Love is so bad, bad, bad, bad." *Shrugs* Pretty self-explanatory. (An acoustic version here.)
4. "집 (feat. 이소라) by Tablo" (listen) - Of course I had to include another song by him. He's.... my new love. And the girl singing, Lee Sora, her voice is so haunting and beautiful. I just... ugh. 집 [jib] literally translates to home. This entire album is a masterpiece. It's not even music, it's art. You must get it. Now. Buy it on iTunes --» HERE! I cannot wait to hear more from him. He's signed with YG, my favorite Korean label... but if they mess with his music. I will not be happy!
5. Take Care (feat. Rihanna) by Drake (listen) - I love Rihanna's voice in this song. And love how Drake goes from singing/rapping to rapping quickly. It just works. And the entire production. Of course, I'm a big fan of Drake. And I'm loving this entire album, of the same name. Definitely better than his past albums!
*bonus* "Mission" by Robin Thicke (listen) - Ohh man, this album. You want to listen to this alone, for sure. This dude is sex. Voice, lyrics, looks.... just bad [in the best way]. LOVING his entire album, Love After War. Robin Thick is... that dude! Do not listen to covers of this song. Trust me. Save your ears!

Ahh!! I can't believe it's already 2012! I swear, last year was the fastest year of my life. So much happened.
I contribute the speed of it to my nephew being born. He definitely helped time fly.

And sadly, I didn't read books like I should have. Let's hope this changes this year.
I've set a goal to read 82 books this year. (If anyone knows where a status bar widget is, please let me know!) And I'm reading numero uno right now, The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin. So good so far. I'm just waiting for the "sexy" part everyone keeps talking about. Unless they're talking about the cheeky Noah in general, then yes... very sexy. ;-)

There will be a review for that this week.

I haven't been posting many reviews here because 1. I haven't been reading very much and 2. I've been guest reviewing for Good Choice Reading. So follow them (I'm sure you are) and you can read all of our reviews!

Probably within the next few months, I'll bring on my mom to do reviews of the books that she reads. She loves YA contemporary, but she also has other tastes that I'm not interested in and I'm sure some readers are. :)

I've been a little book buying happy (plus ones I'm sent) so, expect a "What's in My Mailbox" for the entire month of January! I may do it monthly or bi-weekly. Depends on when I recieve books. :)

Memes and features are some of my favorite things about blogging. So I can't wait to start posting those again.

I'm using both. I wish I could have found plain brown paper, but it was all in bulk size.

2.Real or artificial tree?
Artificial, but next year I would like a mini real tree!

3.When do you put your tree up?
That's my mom's job... she does it as early as the day after Thanksgiving.

4.When do you take your tree down?
Sometimes as early as the day after to as late as after New Year's Eve.

5.Do you like eggnog?
I haven't tried it before, but I would like to.

6.Do you have a nativity scene?
Yes, but it's not up this year. Again, my mom's doing.

7.Favorite Christmas Movie?
I don't know, I just love Christmas Movies. Of course A Christmas Story and ELF. But I love Little Match Girl too. *tears*

8.Favorite Christmas cookie?
PFT. All cookies!!

9.Where will you eat Christmas dinner?
We're going to do two Christmas dinners this year. On Christmas day I'll be making a turkey and all the fixings. The next day, with family, we're having lasagna and sides.

Star. Always.

11.Most annoying thing about this time of the year?
How people get so into buying presents, getting best deals. And obnoxious children. Parents spoil their kids WAYYY too much and need to get some iron cajones!

12.Do you like Fruitcake?
Never tried it. Don't want to.

13.What are you most excited about the holidays?
I finally get to buy presents for people!! And it's my nephew's first Christmas! (He's 8 months)

14.Do you open presents Christmas Eve or Christmas Morning?
Christmas morning. I want to start a tradition of opening a movie and pajamas Christmas Eve.

15.Will you still be wrapping presents on Christmas Eve?
If I'm helping my mom, yes. But I will be at my aunt's house as that's part of her Christmas present, helping her out.

BANISHED by Sophie Littlefield [review]

Review: Another blogger asked if I would like to read Unforsaken by Sophie Littlefield for her blog and it sounded really good, but when I accepted it... I realized it was the second in a series, so I had to read the first one immediately.
And I'm so glad I did. This book was simply sooo good! From the beginning I knew that I'd love this book and didn't want to put it down. But of course I had to, every time something got in the way.
But when I could, I picked it up and read, read, read.
I usually wait a day or two to give reviews, so that the book and story can sink in, but I just finished this one not 30 minutes ago and I had to get on here and review!

Banished is about a girl, Hailey, who learns that she was healing powers after saving a girl's life in gym class. When things start to become less clear, she starts to ask questions, but being the oddest girl out, no one wants to help her. She never knew her dead mother, and has no idea who her father is so she wouldn't get answers there. Then there's her crazy and evil grandmother who sells drugs out of their house and treats Hailey as if she were nothing. All Hailey has is her "brother" Chub and dog Rascal.
That's until her aunt, Prairie comes looking for her.

After Hailey, Prairie, Chub and Rascal finally escape an attack on Hailey's grandmother and the other Banished in town they begin their journey to Chicago and Hailey slowly begins to learn how little she knew about her life.

The entire time I felt so bad for Hailey, but loved how strong she was. She learns she's a healer and the bad and good things that come along with it. Little Chub, adorable and I commended her for basically being his mother at 16 while Chub is 4 with developmental problems.

I was surprised at most things that happened. I'm usually a few steps ahead in a book but everything that happened to Hailey, happened to me, because I just didn't see it coming. Especially the twist towards the last third of the book.

The only reason I give this book 4 stars is because there is no romance in the book, but it does hint at some romance in the next one. I wish I'd only gotten one book from the library so I could read Unforsaken now!

Overall:

Review: Lissa's had enough of the rivalry between the football team--which her boyfriend is the quarterback of--and the soccer team. So, she's come up with a plan to end it. A hook-up strike. And at first she thinks all is well, but things start unraveling quickly. Especially when she is reacquainted with Cash Sterling.

From the beginning I could just tell that her relationship with Randy wasn't as solid as she wanted to believe it to be. And I knew that this "Shut Out" would be far easier than she thought. Except for when it came to her realization that Randy was quite a douche and she may have feelings for Cash. I loved that the many.... many girls in this strike became friends from this and learned a lot about themselves. Old friends who had a falling out became friends again and enemies even began to become civilized.
That and Cash were my favorite parts of the book.

Cash was adorable and there just wasn't enough of him. His last name is Sterling which made me think of the actor Sterling Knight, which in turn made me think of knight in shining armor... which he kind of was.

After reading, and loving, The DUFF I kind of expected a little more oomph out of this one. And because of that, it's why I gave it a 3 star rating. This one has more of a basic contemporary feel to it. More young adult that The DUFF did. But I still enjoyed it and can't wait for more from Kody!

Review: I wasn't all that thrilled to read this book. I enjoyed the first two but it kind of got predictable as to what would happen not only at the end but throughout the entire book. And this one felt like it was basically just the first two combined.

I love the Fuentes brothers. They're fun. But this whole gang thing was getting annoying and I was just over it.
This time around I loved the girl's, Nikki, chapters better than the boy's, Luis.

One thing Simone Elkeles knows how to do... make out scenes. I shall call her "Queen of the Makeout Scene"! Seriously though, they're hot! And the only time I cared much about this book was when Nikki and Luis were together. When it got to the talk of gang related things, I started slowing down, and getting frustrated. Maybe it's because I hate violence. Or just because I was over it after two other books. But I just know I'm glad this is the last book in the series.

Now, I shall become positive: I loved that the other Fuentes boys, Carlos & Alex were in this one along with Brittany and Kiara. Kiara and Carlos are still my favorite couple of the three. I loved that we finally got to meet their mom, though we didn't really get to know her enough.

I love Simone Elkeles's writing style, but some of her Spanish kind of annoys me. Just saying.

I have read every Elkeles book and her How to Ruin series is still my favorite. I just wish she would have added at least one more book to it! (Check them out.)

Both of my brothers are sitting on the couch in the living room. I haven't seen Carlos in over a year, and wasn't expecting him to be released from the hospital in Germany until next week. He looks fine, but when he gets up I can tell it's not without pain.

Review: The summary for this book had me extremely excited to read it. I was hoping it'd be just like it sounded, but for me, it wasn't.
In my opinion is was just another YA contemporary read with comic strips attached. And, the comics were my favorite part.

I never really got to know Evan or Lucy, they just seemed like people you got to watch from afar, but not allowed to get too close to. But when we were allowed into their little world, I enjoyed learning about them, especially when Lucy finally decided to speak. But her sudden change was just off-putting, I really didn't find her reasoning behind it to be very dramatic. It was actually whiny. She had options. She made bad choices. I didn't feel sorry for her.
But, with that, I felt bad for Evan. He's a people-pleaser and he just never seemed very happy. From the beginning the end, he just wanted to make sure everyone around him was happy before him.

Evan's grandmother was the comic relief, in my opinion, the rest of the story just seemed to go on.

I don't regret reading this, but I wouldn't have been disappointed if I'd have never read it.

But, don't let that stop you. I've read quite a bit of mixed reviews, so give it a try. :)

1. The thing that scares me the most is never seeing someone again after I've left them or they've left me. (ie, gone home) I've only told one other person this. But it's an actual fear that runs through my mind often that sometimes I can have panic attacks. I have a VERY bad habit of over-thinking things!!

2. Do you like nuts in your Chocolate Chip cookies? NO! Who the heck does that?! Do not mess with a perfectly good cookie!!! GALLETAS ♥

3. If you couldn't change the channel, what tv show would drive you from the room? The Jersey Shore. I do not understand why people watch and "enjoy that show! I watched half an episode and wanted to punch myself. It's horrendous and offensive TV!! (Though that Pauly D kid was kind of adorable when he was on Jay Leno. But that in NO WAY makes me want to watch that show!)

4. Pulp or no pulp in your Orange Juice? I used to absolutely hate pulp, but it's kind of grown on my once I've started drinking aloe juice. It has chunks/bits of aloe in it that you just can't get past (and I like that). Though I still prefer orange juice without pulp. I'm not picky. (THIS is aloe juice. Pomegranate and mango are my faves! I get it from a local Asian store.)

5. Who do you miss the most? My grandmother. I don't know if I could ever miss anyone as much as I miss her. I lost her in 2005 to the dumbest thing ever.... cancer. Brain cancer. She was so vibrant and alive that summer before. It still aggravates me that a cure for cancer hasn't been found. (Especially in late stages.) ANY disease or medical mystery is just plain stupid and makes no sense. (Sigh, I'll stop ranting and raving now. Especially because I want to go in the medical field!)

A: I would have to choose the characters in Peeps and the show Supernatural. I love the whole sci-fi aspect of both, but they both seem to find some... logical reason behind what's happening. I love the sarcasm that they both have. I think Dean, Sam and Cal would butt heads, but it'd be funny.

1. The best part of waking up each day is being able to start a new day hopefully in a positive way. And knowing you have another chance.

2. How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are? Not going to lie, a bit confused by this. I'm only 22 (though I feel much older) and if I could be any other age, I'd like to go back to high school to do it all over again!! Only changing a few things though. (I'm not greedy).

3. Red or Green Apples? Green! Granny smith are my favorites! YUM!!

4. Do you forgive easily? No, I don't. I can hold grudges for a very very long time!!

5. If you could live in any home on a television series, which would it be? There are a couple. I love the hanok (traditional Korean house) in the Korean drama, Personal Preference. But I loveee the house Aria lives in in the show Pretty Little Liars (mainly because of her room!! THOSE BOOKS!!)!

Looking around for an upcoming book that I have been dying to read was hard. I've been out of the book loop for quite awhile and needed to visit publishing websites to find books coming out soon.
After visiting Poppy's website, I found this book and the title alone drew me in. The cover and the font definitely help. All of the reviews on Goodreads seem to be nothing but positive! I've added this to my list and cannot wait to read it when it comes out in January!

Review: I have read a lot of reviews saying how surprised they were that they liked this book. My review is no different. But the reason I'm surprised is because I'm not much of a shifters, werewolves style book, luckily this books isn't really like that.

Maggie Mae moves to Silvery City, New Mexico after a few run-ins with the law for public indecency.... aka she was naked. But being a shape shifter and not quite in control of when and where you turn can leave you in such predicaments.

As she turns 18 she learns to control her shifting ability a little bit better, right when she meets and quickly begins fall for Bridger. He's the guy everyone loves and admires. And it definitely wasn't hard to see why. The entire time I was reading Shifting I kept imagining Blair Redford as Bridger.

I loved Maggie Mae's voice, how she stood up for her own, never afraid to admit when she may be falling and even though she didn't ask for help, she still knew when she needed it. And it was obvious that living with Mrs Carpenter, someone who genuinely cared for her and was there to help her through her difficult time, made it easier for her to adjust and start accepting people into her life.

When the book first starts out, she's attending school and it seems that the entire book will be her as this girl who has to continue running from her issues so as not to expose her secret. And I was relieved to find out that the school year ending fairly early on in the book, I knew it'd mean more Bridger, more Maggie Mae and her life as a shifter and hoped for more of her friends.... like Yana.
Unfortunately, however there wasn't enough Yana, it seemed the author actually forgot about her completely. She was Maggie Mae's first friend, got her a job, and looked out for her best interest from the beginning, but the way the author left her out made it look as if Maggie Mae completely forgot about her.

The ending is not really left open for a sequel, but I wouldn't be mad if there was on. I'd just hope that there would be more Yana, Mrs. Carpenter and more on Bridger's life.

Ahh. Music. My first love.

Here are the top five songs that I've been playing constantly this past week!

1. "Rocketeer" by Far East Movement ft. Ryan Tedder (listen) - I strongly disklike their song "Like a G6"... to put it bluntly, I think it's stupid! But this one? I loveee it! I had a Pandora playlist for the Kpop group SHINee going, and this song came on. My first thought -- "not repulsive, let's listen to the whole thing".... and I downloaded it as soon as it was over. So, the fact that they're Asian (for once) has nothing to do with drawing my attention. Heh. I love the MV as well. Even if it never friggin' loads for me on youtube! :)

2. "La Vida Es Bella" by Ana Isabelle ft. Chino & Nacho (listen) - She is gorgeous, Chino & Nacho are adorable... Especially Chino (even if I don't really go for guys with braids. But that lip bite at 0:56 (heh) And his arms. And abs.... I digress). Anyways, the song....
Well, this song (Life is beautiful) is so much fun to dance and sing along with! Gawd! The Spanish language is the most beautiful language in the world to me, especially in song! I love every single word in this song except "gracias a dios" but we won't get into that. Heh. ♥♥ Seriously, listen to this song when you're in a blah kind of mood!!

3. "Disaster" by JoJo (listen) - I have been waiting for JoJo's comeback forever. All these leaked songs were a nice tie over, but nothing felt official. Until now! With a hint from her two previous hits "Leave (Get Out)" and "Too Little Too Late" (my fave), JoJo brings a powerful empowering song. And though I don't love it, it's definitely growing on me. From my favorite singer, a song that showcases her vocal talent! Love.

4. "Who's That Boy" by Demi Lovato ft. Dev (listen) - Demi? Is that you? This is definitely nothing like her past albums, which I love, but I'm glad she's getting more into her R&B vocal tones. This song is STUCK in my head. And with the release of her album UNBROKEN today [can't wait to get it home], I'm sure more songs will be stuck in my head! And with noise cancelling headphones, the bass is ridiculous. LOVE that!!
This girl has pipes on her, and I'm loving that she's changing her range! Dev & Demi's voice work perfectly together in this song. This performance is so fun, she's stepping out & I hope she continues with the attention, positive! [watch live here]

5. "Good-bye Baby (Silver Mix)" by miss A (listen in HD) - Though I love the original version (here) of this song. The Silver Mix is just 10x better! The bass [which, apparently I'm loving lately] is amazing. The whole feel of it is different from a lot of Kpop music. The original reminds me too much of their first song "Bad Girl Good Girl", which I like... but too similar. Jia's rap just flows better when it's slowed down as does the hook. And Min's voice, my fave. (GIVE HER MORE PARTS MR. JY PARK!)

Review: I wasn't completely in love with the first book, but I liked it enough to want to continue reading the series. This book took me forever to finish--not because it was bad, but because it was just slow.

I did not like Damen in the first book, and even though I felt bad for him, I still can't connect with him. In Blue Moon something strange is happening to Damen and Ever makes it her goal to figure out what is wrong with him. And even though it was quite predictable from the beginning, I still liked going along the journey with Ever as she tried to put the pieces together. (Probably because it meant less Damen).

From the beginning there was a constant pull between Ever and Damen, hinting at something bigger to come later in the book. But then the pull begins to happen with her two best friends and every one in her class, the only person paying any attention to her is the new guy, Roman. The first time he spoke, I knew he was no bueno. And I was glad Ever could tell it as well, never letting his charm take her over.

As Ever begins visiting her psychic friend Ava and the mysterious otherworld, Summerland, she begins to see that the only way to save Damen is to have never met him. And honestly, I was for this decision. I just have this feeling about him. I don't know what it is. He may turn out to be amazing in the end, I'm just not a fan now. I actually wish Noël would introduce a love triangle.

Now that Ever is more in tune with her ability to manifest anything at any time, I loved that she used it to her advantage, never being selfish. But at the same time, she only thought of one person, Damen. (gah)

Basically, I have a love/hate relationship with this series. I do enjoy the characters and the writing, but at the same time it can drag in places and I just can't get into the love relationship. Hopefully in the future books it'll pick up.

1. "바람났어 (feat. 박봄)" by GG (listen) -- Oh boy.... This song is just fun. That's all. Pure fun. The Translation is "Having an Affair", but it won't translate to that in Google Translate. *raised eyebrow*. Anywhoodles. I just love this song... that's all. And I've been playing it constantly.
2. "How to Love" by Lil Wayne (listen) -- I strongly strong dislike Lil Wayne... His voice annoys me, his raps have no meaning. But I frickin' LOVE this song! Sadly it's kind of like an anthem for me. Surprisingly his voice doesn't annoy me. (This is when autotune is acceptable.) And the MV for it is amazing!
3. "No Woman I've Found" by Madison | LST (listen) --I recently found his song "Who Knows" somehow and loved it and through a series of clicking links, I came across his soundcloud that had this song and I LOVE it! There's a lyric that goes,"...'cause every time she puts her hands in mine, when our palms combine, our life lines align." LOVES IT! Can't wait to hear more from him! 4. "Ugly" by 2NE1 (listen) -- I love what this song is about. Not that they're actually ugly. But that all girls have that feeling that they're just not good enough. Every one of these girls are gorgeous....sooo... Yeah. But I just love them & the song!
5. "Hate You" by 2NE1 (listen) -- I would have loved if they kept the original lyrics "F*ck You".... but Korea is kind of strict in the music department, so I'll accept "Hate You". I just love the beat in this song more than anything!
*bonus"내가 제일 잘 나가" by 2NE1 (listen) -- Oh man... I play this song too much. lol. I am in love with 2NE1's entire mini album and cannot wait for their full album. This one is so much fun. And these girls are the best of the Kpop girl groups! So the song (translates: "I Am The Best") fits them!! I may have a girl crush on CL and Bom. Heh.

Welcome back?

I know, I know. I've said this before... I'll stick to the blogging. New blog coming. Blah. Blah. Blah. But I have been seriously missing blogging lately. Not only blogging myself, but the whole community!

I've decided on this whole new...."better me" type of life, and one thing is blogging and reading more. I used to read 2-4 books a week. Now it takes me like 2 weeks to read one book. (Honestly Korean dramas have taken over my life...do NOT get me started. Though I will suggest any to you. ^_^")

Fall is my favorite time of year. Currently I have all the windows open and in a thick hoodie. LOVE the smell of that crisp air. I kind of feel like it's a new beginning.

I've been doing TurboFire for about 3 weeks now and absolutely LOVE it. That's been step one in this "new me" thing.... and getting back to things I love is a whole step in & of itself. Blogging and reading are something I love!

I'll be keeping this blog as a book blog but sporadically I'll throw in random things like personal posts, music & movie posts...etc.

So, my next post will be the TOP 5 SONGS I'VE PLAYED THIS PAST WEEK. That will hopefully be a recurring blog post. :)

Book Review: "Evermore" by Alyson Noël

Review: Ever was given a second chance in life, but she doesn't quite understand how. All she knows is her parents, sister and dog are dead and she can't help but blame anyone but herself. And to top it off--she's developed psychic powers and now lives with her clueless, workaholic aunt. The only thing helping her is the aloof and possible bad boy Damen. He stops the voices and calms her to the point she becomes putty in her hands. But he isn't the new hottie in school, he may also know how to help her...one tulip at a time.

That was my poor attempt at my own summary. (^_^")

I don't know what possesed me to randomly check this out at the library, but I was in the mood for a paramormal and I like books that have a lot of mixed reviews. . . So I went for it. And I'm glad I did.

I knew from the first few pages that this book may be a little cheesy and that's exactly what I wanted. I loved that it had that darkness to it with her depression, being able to hear all the nasty things her peers are thinking and yet it still light with her quirky best friends: Haven & Miles and her undeniable attraction to Damen.

I won't lie--I was not a fan of Damen. . . I'm still not the biggest fan. One word: douche. I did not find him attractive the way Ever describes him and he was a bad influence on her, whether he knew the truth about her abilities or not, don't ask her to skip school with her all the damn time! And the tulip thing? It was interesting at first, sweet even. . . then it got irritating. And through it all, I felt Ever never really had a backbone. I wanted her to just slap him.

But yet, I loved it. I loved their constant back and forth, I loved how well he kept his (and her) secret hidden. I loved being able to go a long with the psychic ride with Ever.

Drina--the protagonist. . . What a bee with an itch! It was obvious her intentions from the beginning, taking Haven under her wing and constantly torturing Ever any chance she had? Yet I never felt like Damen acknowledged this nor cared. They've been through a lot... a lot together, but she continued to weasle her way into Ever's life any way possible.

Her best friends. I loved. And though I didn't completely get to know them, I felt like I got enough of them, like I didn't need a hige back story on their lives. Who they were in the story when they were with Ever was enough for me.

Throught the story we're taken on this journey with Ever and Damen exploring places in California and her heart that she's never been. And at times you're frustrated while other times you love it and never want the story to end. Along with Ever you're trying to figure out exactly what Damen is. With his abilities to block out her psychic powers, his ability to move faster than any normal human and the air of someone whose. . . been around for awhile.
I'll admit vampire crossed my mind a couple times--but come on--that would've been too predictable.

I'll be reading the rest of this series soon as well as the companion series about Ever's sister Riley in her ghostly world, the Riley Bloom series. (Yeah, we get some of her & she was absolutely adorable!)

There are many series you can compare this book to, but I won't. I thought only of this book and the characters in it while reading and still don't feel like I can compare them. I liked the series. I liked Alyson Noël's writing style and can't wait to read more from her. :)

I have read a lot of books since my last review but haven't had the chance to review any of them. Some I wasn't even going to bother with but decided to compile in a "Rapid Review" . . . So, here goes:

#1: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins ()
Yeah, you saw right. . . I only gave this book TWO stars! I'm going to be completely blunt; What the hell did you people see in this book!?
It's been a few months since I've read this book and my views haven't changed. In fact, I've actually blocked a LOT of what happens in this book. I was not fond of the killing for public entertainment. The names (screw the fact that it's in the future. . . Katniss?), The way Katniss strings along Peeta (who was the ONLY good part of this book), the "twist" at the end, four full pages about her sisters goat, there was no climax, it was "action" the entire time without the action.
I can't give a good review to a book I just wanted to throw. And I've read reviews where people cried. Yeah, I wanted to cry because it was sooo boring & frustrating!!! The one other person who agrees with me? Another Book Junkie!
Now, I want to give it one star. I seriously regret buying this book and will NOT read the rest of the series and won't bother with the movie. (Well, I may just for Elizabeth Banks and Josh Hutcherson.)

#2. I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore (1/2)

When I realized this book was about aliens I knew I wanted to read it immediately. I love sci-fi! As I began reading it I couldn't help but compare everything John does and his powers to Superman. . . (I am very into Superman). . . His super strength, all his abilities, etc. But there were so man differences that it didn't really bother me.

There was action, romance, futuristic-ness, suspense, romance, I loved it! I rarely read books from a male's POV, because not many are written but even though he was the one talking I still swooned over him.

Again, it's been awhile since I've read this book so I can't remember all the details I'm sure I loved.

I will say the movie compared to the book--there is none. I did not like the movie AT ALL. So do not skip the book based on the movie. (Though a lot of people liked it...) I thought the actors fit the characters perfectly, but the way they "movie-fied" it tore away from the book.

#3. The DUFF by Kod Keplinger()
I LOVED this book! It was fast paced, real, raw, and kept me completely interested the entire time. It could be because I can relate to Bianca. The girl who is honest maybe a tad bitchy, but feels lost in a world where everyone seems to know their place. And though she finds an outlet that I would rather run from, shut the door lock, bolt and nail a couple planks of ply-wood up for good measure, I can understand why she chose a more distructive outlet. Her life has kind of always been planned for her and she's never really had a chance to be who she wants, so she tries something that's otherwise forbidden with the hottie douche-wagon of the school and finds out she likes it.
(Basically if you listen to John Mayer's song "Assassin" [here] it kind of sums up Wesley's POV.)
We all know how the book would end but the way it ended had me smiling from ear to ear.
There are some rique scenes in there that had me feeling awkward yet loving every minute of.
I picked this book up at about 12am intending to just start the book. I'd get up to do things trying to avoid reading it in one night, but about 4am rolls around and I've finished it. And I want to read it again. But I refrained.
This is a book I wish I'd bought! (And I will, soon.)

#4. The Locket by Stacey Jay () - ARC

I wasn't thrilled about reading this book, but I figured it'd be a fantasy fluff read that I'd whizz through without any real attachments. It was a fantast fluff read, and I didn't have attachments, but I didn't whizz through it and in fact I left about the last 20 pages unread. Just reading the last page. It wasn't even fluff it was almost gag worthy(the ending) and I love the girliest of girliest type of books and movies, so that's saying a lot.

Katie finds a locket in her grandmother's belongings (hello, thief) and decides to wear it on her anniversary with her boyfriend Isaac. She's done regrettable things in the past and it turns out Isaac knows it, so he leaves her on the side of the road in the pouring rain (hello, douche). It's then that she's sent back in time to the exact moment before she makes her mistake. From that point on I knew this book was going to aggravate me. . . and it did.

There were so many inconsistencies and things that don't make sense even if you go back in time I don't understand how things that would happen before that moment would have changed. I'm sure this was going for the whole Butterfly Effect kind of thing, but how do things happen change if she never went back that far. I asked questions. I didn't get answers. How does someone she never really met all the sudden have a kid. A building (I'm sure was built before she was born) change directions. The fact that I was more concerned with this things than the actual story shows how much I cared.

Isaac was a douche, Katie was whiny and obnoxious, and Mitch was the one from the start --duh!

(Wow, that was incredibly negative...sorry.) This book in NO WAY turns me away from Stacey Jay. I want to read her new book Juliet Immortal even though I loved Romeo & Juliet, I'd like to see a different aspect!

These reviews are matters of opinions! I appologize if I offend anyone with anything I've said. I have been reading a lot books lately that I just do not like and I mainly see positive reviews raving of these books and I think there needs to be more honest opinions that show both positive and negative reviews.

I've been quite distracted lately, and haven't had the chance to finish I Am Number Four... But I'm like it so far, I'm exactly 200 pages in out of 440 pages. Really hoping to be finished by Wednesday... Have more to do tomorrow.

I got the movie poster version because, I honestly do not like the original cover! And I'm usually very against getting promotional versions of books. But... come on... Alex Pettyfor is hot! :)

The Last Thing I Remember has been on my "to-read" list for awhile and Amanda (Another Book Junkie) & I went to Border's for their closing (*weep*) sale and it was the last one, so I went ahead and got it. I probably won't be reading it too soon, I have a lot of books I should be reading (read: Should have already read!)

Review: Ari has been trapped in others shadows for most of her life. First her beautiful and popular sister and now her beautiful and popular best friend. But when her family unexpectedly inherits a small fortune Ari is able to go to the elite prep school along with her best friend, and just as she feared, she just doesn't fit in with her crowd. Which leads her to meet to interesting and quirky Leigh who then introduces Ari to her gorgeous and older cousin Blake.
As Ari learns a whole new side of 1980s New York and the romance she never thought was possible, her ideas of life begin to change as this new world begins to consume her. Especially this budding romance with Blake. But when tragic strikes Blake and his family, he ends his relationship with Ari and she in turns begin to lose her way in life. Now she has to try to see what this relationship with Blake was and try to salvage any relationship with both her family and friends that were put on the back burner while Blake began to take over everything she once did and loved.

I won't lie, when I read the summary of this book, I figured it'd just be another lovey-dovey fluff read that left me void of any emotion or attachment towards it... I was wrong. The depth of this book will definitely leave an impact with me in the long list of debut authors this year!

When Ari describes her pain or any feelings she has, you feel them, you understand them. When we read about the small and meticulous things Ari did... You wanted to know about them. Everything. But the things that made you continue reading are what mattered the most. Like her falling in love and experiencing everything that comes along with your first love. Having feelings that are otherwise forbidden in the eyes of the world. Being in the shadow of your best friend who may always be there for you but just doesn't understand who you are and why you are that person. I believed it all.

I knew from the first few pages that this book would be different. And it wasn't just the year (set in the late 1980s) or that the world they lived in is different from ours... The author knew how to speak to me and let me know exactly how things were. We're not only introduced to characters, but we get to know these characters. And that's done without having their biography laid out for us.
The way Ari would describe her feelings towards someone would allow you to develop your own feelings and judgement towards them, openly -- non biased.
Especially her family... And her sister's husband. Though she liked him, a lot, I was actually annoyed by him. And her sister? Boy, that woman's got a mouth on her. But it was hilarious!

I did want more of Leigh however. I found her fun, refreshing, and real. And Blake, her cousin, was hot and weird at the same time. "Nice" this "nice" that... Agh!! However the love scenes between Ari and Blake--ow, ow--I would love to read an adult romance book from Lorraine!! Them scenes were hot! ^_^"

The interaction between Ari and her parents, especially her mother, were real and honest. Who doesn't get annoyed with their parents and though they hold it in just want to tell them exactly how they feel. We all have at some point, and sometimes things get so serious that you just have to. And when Ari finally does, you cringe, you feel both Ari's anger and her mother's pain.

The ending, let me just tell you... I loved it and from the moment Blake and Leigh came into the picture, that is exactly what I hoped happened. I can't say much more, but I will say I wouldn't mind a sequel to see more into Ari's world! Though it's wrapped up very well that you feel perfectly fine with guessing what may happen in everyone's future.
I cannot wait to read more from Lorraine Zago Rosenthal!!

When I read a book I usually don't associate the cover with anything that happens in this book, but this is exactly how I imagined New York and Ari herself. Gorgeous cover with soft colors that draw you in and make you want to pick it up!

With this book you not only get the contemporary young adult romance book but you get honesty, realness and believablitiy (redundant & made up words for the win)! I definitely recommend this to everyone--no matter your usual genre choice. It's a breath of fresh air and leaves you feeling good!

Book Review: "XVI" by Julia Karr

Review: XVI is the first dystopian novel that I've read and am glad that it was my first! This book kept me interested, confused, and interested some more from beginning to end.

Nina Oberon lives in the year 2150 where being sixteen years old is anything but innocent. And for her, anything but something to look forward to. When teenage girls turn sixteen they are required, by law, to get a tattoo on their wrist of the Roman numerals "XVI" which lets the world know (especially creepy men) that she is ready for sex. Some girls become so obsessed with turning sixteen they're known as sex-teens. And Nina's best friend, Sandy just so happens to be one.
When Nina's mother is brutally attacked in an alley, her dying wish is for Nina to protect her younger sister, Dee and learns the truth about her past that throws her world for a loop.

Within the first few chapters I was seriously confused--trannies, skivs, chips, PAV's--none of it made any sense. But after awhile, things became clear and more and more interesting. But unlike a lot of books with made up worlds, whether they're futuristic or present, XVI was believable. Other than the natural progression that may occur in life, the only thing that would (hopefully) not happen is the XVI tattoos and hopefully the craziness of the government. Though, I wouldn't mind the world wide veganism. I believe that would be a very smart--and healthy thing for our lives.

After her mother's untimely death, Nina (and her sister) are forced to move in with her grandmother and grandfather. They return to their old schools and are reunited with old friends and meet new ones. Like Sal and Wei. Though I felt like we didn't get to know much about these characters or her other friends: Sandy, Derrek and Mike--I liked them and wanted more of them. I actually wanted more of Derrek even though he was nothing more than a friend to Nina... Not sure why.
But the relationship between Sal and Nina gets testy and hot as well. Loved that.
And Wei seems like the kind of friend every girl needs in their life!

I was glad that Nina looked at the "XVI" thing as negative, in part from some influence from her mother, but in reality...she just knew that the whole idea of letting teens not only have sex at sixteen but seriously encourage it is ridiculous!

The way the book ended doesn't leave much for you to need more, but according to Julia Karr's website she is writing not only a sequel to this book, but a spin-off as well. (I think it'll follow her younger sister Dee).
I think I have neutral feelings towards the sequel. I would love to see more into this world and the lives, but the way XVI ended was nicely wrapped up. No cliffhangers. I likey.

On a negative note, I felt like XVI leaned more toward MG than most YA I've read lately? I think it was the more on the writing and less on the situations, characters, and plot. This, however, will not prevent me from reading future Julia Karr books. I enjoyed this one and would love to read more from her mind!

Julia Karr is a debut author this year and is currently working on a sequel as well as a spin-off to her first novel, XVI.
She grew up in the small town of Seymour, Indiana and has lived in St. Augustine, Florida and Longmont, Colorado.
Living far away from her mother, Julia would write lengthy letters to her and learned to love editing when her mother would return them back to her with corrected spelling. Poetry and drawing kept her interest and she used them to make greeting cards for friends and family.
When she was sixteen years old, she moved to Chicago and fell in love.
She now has two grown daughters who experienced her love of writing when they were younger. She would make up stories for her daughters and that's when she first started thinking of writing for children. And now that they're grown and out of the house, Julia is able to take writing seriously.

1. Do you like your ice cream in a dish, waffle cone, pretzel cone, sugar cone or cake cone?
I rarely eat ice cream, and when I do it's usually Ben & Jerry's. . . so I just eat it out of the carton. But there are those times I want a simple vanilla or a cookies-n-cream. . .and my the best way (which I rarely get to do) is eating them in a waffle cone. Waffle. . . enough said!!
2. Do you read the newspaper daily?
No. I can't rememeber the last time I really read a newspaper. On Sunday's I do glance through the sports section before grabbing the ads. I should probably read it more, at least the local sections!
3. Marinara or meat sauce?
Marinara! With lots of Parmesan cheese! I love pasta. and I love marinara. But it has to be the right brand if I myself am not making it from scratch!
4. Last time you cried?
Yesterday, Sunday. I had a panic attack and let me tell you. . . They're not fun! When I get overwhelmed with things I tend to get them. Ugh!!!
5. What word/phrase do you find really annoying?
"Retard(ed)" I shudder just typing the word. People who use it in a derogatory, negative way sound so unbelievably ignorant!! I wish everyone would stop using it. (That and "gay" "homo". .etc. as a way to describe something negatively.)

**I didn't add any pictures today. . . not feeling up to much! I don't know how I managed to even type this up. So I'm sure there are lots of spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors. Eh. . .

1. Have you (only you..not a group) ever won first place in anything?
Uhm . . . I really don't remember. I believe there was a writing contest for my class and I won. No, I did not read it aloud, but the teacher just read everyone's. But I wouldn't really consider it a contest. But, you know. . . I'll take what I can get.

2. Are your toes always painted (sorry guys...this question for girls only)?
Yes, they are always painted. Lately I've been doing a nude-ish, natural color. . . but a few days ago decided to paint them a deep red. Already ready to change that! I like the natural look!

3. What color eyes do you have?
Hazel; and I love them. When I was a kid, everywhere we went, people would say "aww, you're eyes are so pretty." Now it's more like, "Are you wearing contacts?" (It gets annoying, but oh well!) ^_^" [P.S. That pic -right - is a few years old. . . but it is me & my eyes.]

4. Look to your left....what do you see?
A wall . . . But there is a shelf with a lot of votives & pictures of Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Audrey Hepburn & Elvis Presley. Did I mention a LOT of votives (for candles)!!

5. Soft cookies or crunchy cookies?
It depends on the cookie & brand. I love cookies. . . like. . . a lot. Thank you. . . now I want some cookies. Shortbread, chocolate chip (Famous Amos), sugar, peanut butter, white chocolate macadamian nut (from Subway). . . okay. . . I'm done!! :)

**I've already read Twenty Boy Summer and gave it a 4/5 stars. I will not be reviewing this book because I feel that I won't be able to give it a proper review. It took me over a month to finish this book because I was in a "I-don't-want-to-read" kind of mode.
But the books I read from now on will get a review!!

So, those are the books I acquired since my last post in October. Not much. . . but definitely worth mentioning! I believe the first review book I will be. . . reviewing. . . is Dorris Bridge. I will let you know now that it is an adult book!

Welcome 2011!!

With this year, I want to be dedicated to this blog, not only in the posting but in the interactions with any readers I may have, keeping everything up to-date, and always keeping an attractive layout.
I hope to bring in more memes, giveaways, and features. . . and whatever else that may keep me occupied and you entertained!
I've decided that instead of having two blogs -- one dedicated to reading & one to music and movies -- they'll all be here, in one place.
So this blog won't just be about books, because it's not my only love in life. There are many others!
But books. . . are still number one!

I think I'll also do a random "personal" blog at least once a month.

Aigoo. . . Too much I want to say. But I'll just tell you that the first week of January 2011 will be without many or any posts - aside from this one - but I'm going to try to post at least once a day.

Nail Color: Merry, Merry Quite Cranberry (1)

Merry, Merry Quite Cranberry

This color is inspired by Christmas. . .Specifically cranberries! Now, I don't eat the canned cranberry "sauce" but I do enjoy a tart, fresh cranberry every once in awhile. I have been looking for a deep red color forever & could never find the right one. . .(still can't). . .So I decided to make my own and make it festive.

*Note: I name all of the color combinations I come up with so you can not find the color in stores!

Though you can't really tell by this picture, this is a very glittery color.

I will definitely be wearing this color on Christmas day, and most likely have an eyeshadow combination to match. :)

Colors you'll need*:

• AVON Nailwear Pro in Midnight Plum (click to purchase)

• AVON Nailwear Pro in Ruby Slippers (click to purchase)

• Any good top coat in clear.

How to get this color:

First and foremost, I recommend you always apply a good base coat to your nails.
Apply a coat of Midnight Plum to each nail, let dry 3-5 minutes.
Apply a second coat of Midnight Plum to each nail, bringing it over the edges. (This will give the end color a deeper look and last longer) Let dry 3-5 minutes.
Apply a coat of Ruby Slippers to each nail, let dry 3-5 minutes.
Apply a second coat of Ruby Slippers to each nail, bringing it over the edges. (You do not need to do two coats of the Ruby Slippers color, the second coat brightens it up more, giving it a redder look. If you do not do a second coat, make sure to bring the the color over the edges the first time.)
Apply one coat of top coat to your nails, carrying it over the edges.
Because you have applied so many coats of polish on your nails, your nails may take longer than "normal" to dry and could smudge easily. Be careful!

I am kind of obsessed with layering nail colors and rarely ever paint my nails one color, and of course, naming them is fun as well.

I like to paint my nails every other week, personally my nail polish color lasts a long time (I use top coat twice a week) so I don't need to do them that often.

I will be doing a Thanksgiving/Fall color soon and will show you what I did & give you the color soon!

Guess Who's a Slacker Blogger. . .

I haven't been on Blogger nor posted anything in quite sometime! Let's blame it on the amazingness that is Supernutural and Smallville. For some reason unbeknownst to be, I decided to catch up on five seasons of Supernatural and nine seasons of Smallville before the end of their seasons this fall. I'm all caught up on Supernatural and I'm currently in season 5 of Smallville. So for that I am quite behind on the reading department. I have only one book to review! [That I've yet to even attempt to review]

I am currently reading Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler. . . .Very slowly. I did not read the book that has been under "currently reading" for about a month now on my blog, goodreads, facebook, etc. (Take Me There by Carolee Dean) So, don't expect a review for that book any time soon!

I'm so glad it's finally NOVEMBER!! Not only is it the first day of NaNoWriMo but Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I comes out this month as well! And Thanksgiving is at the end of the month...score!

I will be participating in NaNoWriMo this year, my page is here, I'm still editing everything! (If you want to learn more about it just go to my page & then click the logo at the top left corner. It's currently very slow because of the heavy traffic!) I will be putting in a synopsis and a cover soon, but I'd like to wait until it's a little more developed. My book will be a contemporary Young Adult about a boy named Daniel. That's all you get! :)

I'm trying to think of something that make be slightly exciting new in my life... But no. There's nothing to say!

1. Have you ever been on a cruise?
No! But I sure would love to! I love the water, and I love boats...and I love hotels...and they are all combined into one! Yet, somehow I've never been on one. Someday my friends...someday!
2. What is your favorite way to eat eggs?
I would have to say in a breakfast burrito or possibly and egg salad sandwich. Chyeah!
(P.S. I don't know what that green crap is in that sammich...but it looks like a nice picture. :-P)

3. What is your favorite reading material?
I have been in this very long reading slump that's making me rahter...sad!
After my long marathon of 5 seasons of Supernatural, I figured it'd be over. No. I've now decided that I want to catch up on nine seasons of Smallville before the final episode!! So basically...I have only read ONE book in about a month! This is not cool. I need to check my priorities. But Mr Clark Kent & Lex Luthor just keep calling my name! Sigh! P.S. My answer is and will always be BOOKS!
(It took me awhile to understand the foreshadowing of this picture [click here]. Ahh, young Tom Welling...uh...I mean Clark Kent..yeah, that's it.)

4. Name all the pets that you have ever had?
Uh...yeah. I can't remember all of them, so I'll just start naming:
Cinnamon(dog), April(dog), Fuego(fish), Baby(dog), Allie(dog), Reggie(dog), LeeLee(current--dog)...believe me...there were many more! Most ran away or we had to give up. LeeLee, I've had the longest. She's a black Pomeranian. Ha..That face. She hates getting her picture taken!

5. Were you ever a girl/boy scout?
No. Sigh. I always wanted to be though. Or maybe I wish I would have...as in I think about it now, but never then. Either way, I wasn't a very "extracurricular activity" kind of person.

1. Do your pants get hung on a hanger or folded?
My jeans go on a hanger and my sweat & pajama pants are folded in a drawer. I don't have many jeans at all. (three pairs) so they don't take up any room at all. But sweat pants & pajamas...two drawers full!

2. If you are stranded on an Island, what 3 things would you need to have with you (not including humans or electronic devices)?
• A book. • Knife(machete) • notebook/journal (with a pen attached...counts as one. :])

3. Where is the farthest you have ever traveled to?
I don't know. I have traveled to so many different places. I going to guess Gulfport, MS to Augusta, GA. (Great place right past Atlanta)

4. Do you live in a house, trailer or apartment, etc.?
I live in a house, but with all hopes built up inside....I'm really hoping by this time next year I have an apartment all to myself. I am getting rather annoyed with living under someone else's roof! (Hey bagillion places I've applied: hire me!!)

5. What is your most hated household chore?
I actually don't hate any thing, I hate the thought of doing chores, but once I get started I don't think too much about it. Like the dishes & cleaning the kitchen...hate the thought, but feel so good once it's done & done right!!

Review: "Falling For Romeo" by Jennifer Laurens

Review: First of all, I love Jennifer Laurens' Heavenly series and her book under the pen name J.M. Warwick, A Season of Eden, so I kind of had high expectations going into this book. I think Jennifer is a great writer who knows how to get into the minds of young adults.
That being said, I'll get into the review.
John and Jennifer(MC, not author) have been next door--window to window--neighbors for most of their lives and grew up best friends. But when John grew taller and higher on the status chart, their relationship seemed to fall apart.

After both going out for the lead roles in Romeo & Juliet, it becomes clear that their friendship isn't going to be rekindled that easily. Jennifer has been in as many school plays as possible and now that John has decided to join, it's as if he's trying to take anything left that was once her own. And to top it all off, they both make lead. And what happens in Romeo & Juliet? They kiss of course!

This book is written in third person, which may be part of the reason I had trouble with it, I feel distanced from a book when I'm reading it in third person. However I did enjoy that it went back and forth between what Jennifer was doing and what John was doing, gave you more of a "fly on the wall" sense to their lives.

For me, at times, I felt like the book just drug on and on and it was rather maddening when you just wanted to scream(okay, I might have) at the characters to just tell each other how they felt! But of course, they're both completely stubborn in their ways and neither one wants to be the first to admit how they feel. So between the games of bantering, he-said, she-said, and what-ifs.

Though I did enjoy the characters, I just wished they vocalized as much as they thought!

Even with the disappointment I had in this book, that does not, in anyway, change how I feel about any other Jennifer Laurens book. I will be reading a few others from her soon. (Nailed, Magic Hands, and her upcoming book Overprotected.)

Lately I haven't been reading as much as I'd like. Not in the biggest reading mood, so I haven't had any reviews to post. But on a normal reading basis I like to have about 2-3 reviews a week!

What's your favorite beverage while reading or blogging, if any? Is it tea, coffee, water, a glass of wine, or something else?

I don't drink that much throughout the day...which is a bad thing, I know...but I am a big soda drinker--again a bad thing. Though I try to drink as much water as possible...but it doesn't always work out so well. I'm not an alcohol drinker to begin with, so that's really not an option. Coffee, however, I love! I drink a lot of it, no matter the time of day. Not for the caffeine--because it has no affect on me--but for the strong & bitter taste mixed w/ my favorite creamer, hazelnut! (mmm, now I want some coffee)! :)

"Soundtrack to My Life"

Go through your iTunes or whatever music library you have and find songs that seem like the writers got inside your head and wrote down exactly what you were going through or thinking.
Find songs that completely or at least mostly pertain to your life somehow. So songs about being "famous" or having "haters"...just not going to cut it! Sorry! They can be from any artist, band or genre.
If you'd like, put a small reason why the song means something to you. If it's too personal...you don't have to. I will on some songs, not all!

Here's Part I of my Playlist (in no particular order):

"Far Away" by Nickelback (listen) - This is the first song to ever completely tell exactly how I'm feeling from beginning to end. Every. Single. Word. Luckily I'm not so completely torn about the guy & we've both moved on. But it's always a what-if moment when I hear this song. And it's the only song from Nickelback I love...even like.
"I'm OK" by Christina Aguilera (listen) - I have never been physically abused nor has my father ever abused my mother but not having a father there or act like he cares is relatable...but not comparable! My mom has always been my mother and my father and her strength is amazing...even though I know it's hard for her. I can not say that I know Christina's pain, but the pain of feeling like you're not good enough for some reason...I get that.
"Unconditional" by Jordan Pruitt (listen) - Even though I'm pretty sure this song is about her god, I don't believe there is one. So I dedicate this one to my mom! Who I love and respect and I know she does the same for me...unconditionally. (P.S. Jordan is quite an underrated artist!)
"Two Worlds Collide" by Demi Lovato (listen) - This is a song about your best friend...just knowing that when one's down the other will be there to lift them. No matter their differences or similarities. And I'm lucky enough to know I have a best friend like that. (Amanda at Another Book Junkie)
"All I Want is Everything" by JoJo (listen)* - By the title it may seem like this song is a selfish song where you think you deserve anything and everything that you want...but it's about when you persevere and try for something you love and are passionate about and you just want to finally make it there. Bask in the glow of your success. And that's one of the biggest things that'll drive my focus (once I get focus-lol)!
"Believe in Me" by Demi Lovato (listen) - This song will most likely be on a lot of my playlists...especially any that may be a "personal" playlist. It has helped me through so much! It's a song about finding yourself and finding where you belong even in the midst of your darkest days. (You'll see a lot of Demi Lovato songs. Her music is completely relatable for me!)
"King of Anything" by Sara Bareilles (listen) - Basically, I have a lot of people in and throughout my life who believe that my life should go one way or another...instead of helping me go where I want to go, they like to shove me in another direction Newsflash: It just makes me want to rebel and do a complete 180 against what you think I want. I do not care if you disagree with me. You're not me! :-)
"Afraid" by Vanessa Hudgens (listen)* - I feel this song is about me because no matter who I'm with relationship, friendship, or family wise...I build up a wall and it's very difficult to break through. And most of the time someone doesn't care enough to try. So I'm left feeling...alone. I've been hurt a lot, so I have a hard time trusting someone. This is mainly about love, but I can use it in all aspects of my life!
"You Won't Find This" by Carrie Underwood (listen) - I will admit, my reasonings for having this song a relatable "about me" song is for quite selfish and conceited reasons. It's that thought that no matter where "he" goes or who "he" is with...they're never going to be me. She'll never love him like I did. And yes...it's about the same guy as my #1 song. I still like to believe that he'll never find anyone like me...even if I don't care. ;-)
"Misguided Ghosts" by Paramore (listen) - Normally I don't like when the crowd sings along, but I find this so peacfully beautiful. Anyways...I think it's kind of obvious why I've picked this song. There are about four or five lyrics I can pick out that fit perfect, like: "See, I'm trying to find my place, but it might not be here where I feel safe. We all learn to make mistakes & run from them." I don't think I need to explain that too much, do I? Hopefully I'll be able to say I related to this song, in past tense, soon!

1. What is the best dish you can make?
Chicken tacos. And I make them all the time!! But I'm working on trying to mix flavors and venture out. I made this spaghetti chicken dish for my brother & I one night and he loved it. I think some of my best things is when I just randomly throw stuff together.

2. How often do you change your sheets?
About once a week to every other week. It's only me in the bed...and I know where I've been. :) I only have one sheet set so when I need to wash them...I go without sheets if I'm too lazy to put them back on when I dry.

3. What is the longest car trip you have ever taken?
Most likely from here(Springfield, MO) to Long Beach, Mississippi...it's about a 12 hour drive to the coast. Georgia & Florida were far as well, but not as long! I miss and love the south, I would take that trip once a week if I had to!!

4. What is your favorite fruit?
I have no idea! I love mixing fruits. I don't think there's many I can eat by themselves. Okay a lot: grapes, bananas, oranges, apples, kiwi...
But my favorite combination is bananas and strawberries.

5. Would you rather have breakfast for dinner or dinner for breakfast?
Definitely Dinner for breakfast. I rarely eat breakfast foods....but I love any kind of dinner for any time of day. Oh who am I kidding, whatever I feel like eating I'll eat. Whether it's "supposed" to be for dinner or breakfast or lunch or brunch or linner(lunch + dinner)!!

I got the first three books at garage sales. The woman who had Velocity had an insane amount of books for sale & I had to take a step back before I got a little carried away. My mom picked up a couple books as well.Pretties was at the first garage sale we stopped at, it's a little warped as if it's been shoved in a box for far too long...but it's still readable...so I will. I just need to get Uglies the first book in the series.Drop Dead Beautiful was at our last garage sale and though she had many other books to rummage through...not many of them caught my eye. (I also picked up Titanic on VHS from this one...hey....I love that movie!!)

Sisters Red I haven't heard much about at all, but there was a little twitter spree with the hash tag #SistersRed going on awhile back, so I decided to put it on hold at the library & just recently "unfroze" the book...so it'll be the next book I read!!

Duke Crocker!!

Duke Crocker is played by Eric Balfour in the SyFy show, Haven. The show is set in gorgeous Maine and based on the Stephen King novel called The Colorado Kid. I love SciFi shows and this is quickly growing to become one of my favorites. (*crosses fingers for a second season*)

Everytime I see Duke in the show I think "why the long face..." (sooo funny...not...lol). But I love Duke and his arrogant attitude. He's one of my favorite things about the show. He usually has the comedic one-liners throughout but he knows how to be deep and heartfelt.

Eric Balfour is a sweetie to, as I've learned from his twitter: @ERICBALFOUR. So follow him & show him love! :) He's trying to reach 10,000 followers for a special donation!

This sounds like a unique book that focuses on friendship, instead of romance. (Even though Grace seems a little infatuated). But it also sounds like it may have some darkness thrown in there as well.

Can't wait to pick this one up. Depending on the reviews, I may get this from the library instead of buying. (If I don't win it in a contest.)

Oh boy....a clock, an old Kum & Go cup(half full), my mom's crackers(shh), a cup, toilet paper(for the runny nose), lotion, Tylenol, hand sanitizer, IcyHot, a fake rose that had earrings inside, more lotion, a candle, pens & a pencil, hair pomade, hair tie, candle, remote control, a Q-Tip, Hush, Hush, my journal, cell phone charger, a notepad, an application for TJ Maxx, a notebook (and don't get me started with what's in the drawer!!)

3. How many pair of shoes do you own?
I am not even going to count, but I know I have about 50+ flip flops...no I don't wear them all, my black, grey and brown ones get worn the most. I need to wear the others. I know I have two pairs of heels and a few pairs of tennis shoes. Can't quite guess!

4. Can you change a flat tire?
Hahahahahahahahahaha. No.
But I don't have a car...so it's not too bizarre!

5. Do you prefer sweet treats or salty treats?
A mixture of both!! But I'd rather not have salty just not sweet....if that makes any sense?!

When you write reviews, do you write them as you are reading or wait until you have read the entire book?

- A little of both! Sometimes I'll jot down notes about the book that I liked or didn't like to help with the review. I'll even write down a lot of quotes that I loved & try to narrow those down to 1 or 2.
If a book is really good I don't think too much about anything else and I just read read read!
I've learned that I'm a very fast reader if I'm comfortable, sitting up, and the book is very well written.

Review: If you read many of the blogs that do book reviews there's a 99.9% chance you've heard the buzz about this book! I know I have. Which is why I was slightly nervous going into the book...that it wouldn't live up to it's hype.

Paranormalcy is about Evie, a girl who lives in the IPCA (International Paranormal Containment Agency) headquarters after living in the foster system until she had her encounter with a vampire. When she tells them how the vampire really looked...under his glamour...IPCA takes her in and uses her to catch paranormals of every kind!
Growing up in such an isolated space with no contact with the outside world and having your best friend as a mermaid--it's obvious why Evie obsesses over anything...normal.

When a mysterious water boy shows up to the Center, everyone is on edge making sure he's contained until they figure out why he's snuck in and what he is. Evie begins visiting Lend and learning more about him. But never enough.

When paranormals start dying everywhere around her and her crazy ex-boyfriend keeps trying to kidnap her, Evie begins thirsting for more time with Lend, a shapeshifter--someone who's been the closest thing to normal in her life.

Evie is absoultely adorable and I loved her. Her and her side kick Tasey (her blinged out pink taser). Basically she was the best bleeping :) part of the book. Maybe second. I did love Lend as well.

I've read some reviews where people think Evie is annoying because of her over excitement for the most normal of things...like lockers...but hello she's lived in this confined place for most of her life. I loved Evie and only loved her excitement even more.

Judging the cover, this was not how I expected the book...I thought it would be darker but I liked how light it was yet still held depth! And by the way that is not at all how I imagine Evie. That is a small scene in the book--hair and dress--but I imagined Evie to be a lot prettier. And if it were to become a movie, I could see Taylor Swift playing her however...I didn't see Taylor while reading the book.

I currently have Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick in my "Currently Reading" section....but the truth is, I've only read the prologue! I haven't been in much of a reading mood lately & I've just recently gotten into the show Supernatural(yeah, season one...!)
I won this book and after the bestie told me how much she loved it, I knew that it'd be the next book that I would read. She just received Crescendo in the mail, so I know I need to read this book so I can move on to that one.
I am in love with that cover, so that was pretty much reason enough!! :)

I will be starting Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl.(won from the same person.)

I don't really know when I'll be starting this book, but I do know that it will be soon. Most likely Friday night & read through the weekend! :)

Review: "Sea" by Heidi R. Kling

Review: First of all, how serene is that cover? I love it!

I don't think I anticipated this book too much in the Debut Author Challenge--not because be the summary wasn't appealing, but because after looking at all the other Debut Authors, this one didn't stand out.
But it was by far one of the best books I've read this year! And definitely in my top five for the Debut Challenge thus far.

Sienna has lost her mother to the Indian Ocean and though it's been nearly five years--it's still extremely hard for her. Never stepping back into the sea, and deathly afraid of flying; the last present she expected or wanted was a trip to Indonesia to join her father in helping the victims of the 2004 Tsunami. Leaving her best friends from home--one she may (unknowingly) be developing feelings for just doesn't add up to be the best birthday!

After a horrendous flight consisting of nightmares(that never seem to cease), frightening turbulence and of course vomiting on her orange Converse...the children's orphanage should've been the cherry on the spoiled ice cream sundae.
And it looks that way
Until she meets Deni.
The gorgeous guy with striking eyes, a small limp, heavy accent who just so happens to speak fluent English...a perfect recipe for disaster. But the good kind of disaster!

I loved and adored Deni from beginning to end! And one of the orphans--Elli.
From excited sneak-outs on the motor, trying new foods and being comfortable with someone you've just met, the connection between Sienna and Deni is palpable.

I read this book in about a day, so the budding relationship seemed a little quick, but I never stopped rooting for them.

But Spider--friend from home--was always in the back of my mind. I liked him. Though he wasn't in the book enough to really get to know him, he had potential and my heart was torn...can't imagine how Sienna felt (we never really got much about him while in Indonesia). He just screamed "possibility".

I haven't read a book this quickly in a long time, so that's a sign that I thouroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end. And surprisingly loved the ending. I would absolutely love a sequel to this book, but it isn't necessary.
If you haven't already, read this book! I cannot wait for more from Heidi R. Kling!!

Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have teamed up again for what sounds like a promising read. I absolutely adored their book Naomi & Eli's No Kiss List!
That summary....amazing. And I love books with more than one POV...preferably two--male & female.
It's obviously set in New York, and though it's not a place I really want to live, N&E made me want to at least visit---for quite awhile! :)
I would love to do that, leave a random notebook somewhere. :)

I think I may start leaving random inspirational messages in the most random of places. and maybe poems and quotes as well... in an attempt to boost someone's self-esteem and just spread love. May save a life. #SpeakLoudly!

Review: Pentience is the sequel to Heavenly(review) which follows Zoe Dodd and her family and friends and how heaven and earth have collided.
Penitence starts off directly where the first one left off--the hospital post car crash! Zoe has lived and is wanting nothing more than to be back in Paradise with Matthias by her side. But it doesn't look like that'll be happening anytime soon.

After leaving the hospital and returning back to school, Zoe just wants things to be as normal as possible, but when a man in black appears to be stalking her, her best friend is stalking her ex-boyfriend--Weston--who just so happens to be eerily watching Zoe...nothing is really going to be normal.

When Weston makes his intentions known, Zoe doesn't like it...at first.

I believe I missed Matthias as much as Zoe did, but I began loving Weston as well. It seemed that Matthias was always on her mind no matter what she was doing or who she was with. But sadly, as much as Zoe begins liking Weston...Brittany's obsession over him is getting out of hand. And it isn't long before Brittany begins turning on Zoe (but don't take the summary on goodreads to heart.) Even though Matthias is gone for quite awhile, his return brings tension and warnings to stay away from the handsome man in black, but it's hard for Zoe to listen.

Even with Matthias's blessing to be with Weston it's still clear that it's hard for him to see the girl he loves with another guy. And though Zoe likes Weston--a lot--she can't seem to let herself feel the same way that he feels. Which is understandable when you have a perfect angel(literally) who is in love with you and will be in your life so long as your younger sister is still autistic...makes it hard to move on.

I love Matthias...but since this book I think I might like Weston a little more. Though he did--or came close to doing--a horrible thing, it's obvious that he learned from his mistakes and is trying to just love. And grow up.

1. What is your favorite all time movie?
Eep! This is hard! I have a few movies that I can watch over and over again like; The Professional, The Notebook, Crossroads, Twilight, and Finding Nemo. But my favorite movie of all time has to be Beauty and the Beast. I still love it & sing along to every song even now. And this is my favorite scene. (I'm actually kind of tempted to watch the movie now. lol.)

2. How often do you go over the speed limit?
I don't drive. I'm an awesome loser like that. :) No car. I don't really want one right now, but I know that I'll need one soon.

3. What really gives you the creeps?
I have been around so much nasty stuff that not much really creeps me out. HOWEVER....spiders *shudders* creep me out!! I hate hate hate them! And no I am not looking for a picture. We all know what they look like.

4. What is your favorite snack?
Hmm, I love to snack, so I'll snack on anything as long as it's good. I like taking some of my favorite potato chips and mixing them up in a Ziploc baggy. My favorite potato chip right now is Baked Lay's Cheddar and Sour Cream in Regular or Ruffles.

5. Would you rather be a dog named Killer or a cat named Fluffy?

A kitty! I have had dogs my entire life & we get along....but I loveee cats!
I believe in reincarnation...so maybe I was on in a past life. Ha. P.S. I want a cat that looks just like that one --»

1. What is your favorite pasta dish?
Fetuccine Alfredo! Especially from a restaurant called "Zio's"!! I love love it! I'll add chicken sometimes, but it's just as good without. Their spicy alfredo dish is amazing-er!! :-)

2. What is the last thing you do before going to bed?
I have a routine: Let LeeLee(my dog) outside, brush teeth, get a glass of water, let LeeLee in, turn on my iPod & climb into bed...so I guess the iPod.

3. How many nights a week do you go out to eat?
That all depends on my mom. It could be 0-5 nights. Average about 2 nights.

4. Are you an avid book reader?
Yes. Seeing as how this blog is dedicated to reading & reviewing them. lol. I wish I could read more in a week. I'm quite a fast reader, I just don't read enough at once.

5. Would you rather have x-ray vision or bionic hearing?
I have pretty decent hearing already but I don't know if I'd want bionic hearing! Though x-ray vision could save a life, it's also way too much visual...so I guess the hearing wins!

Review: I have been pretty excited to read this book, not because of the reviews on Goodreads…which in no way do I trust...but because I love the mysterious synopsis of this book and have been waiting for a really good paranormal book to dive into.

Persephone “Phe” moves to Shadow Hills, because she feels like she has to, to find out what her sister Athena was trying to figure out.

At the beginning of this book, I didn’t want to put it down, I just keep reading. When I got to about page 100 the I-just-don’t-want-to-read feeling set in and the rest of the book took forever for me to finish.

Phe begins getting these weird red marks on her hip and after awhile they actually begin to form a sort of symbol. After arriving at the school, Phe meets Graham and there’s an instant friendship between the two. Adriana, Toy and Brody are other characters that slowly develop in the beginning of the story. And then Phe meets the weird and electrifying Zach, his sister Corinne and their cousin Trent.

Phe can instantly tell that there’s something special about Zach and something creepy about Trent. And it takes a while for her to figure out. But she’s most definitely determined to figure it out.

The writing is great. That was most definitely not the problem. I just felt like it was a little…dry.

By the time Zach becomes a bigger part of the story, I felt like everyone else was forgotten—Graham, Adriana, and Toy. Though I did love every scene with Zach! (So I guess it’s a win/lose…?)

For me, Phe is definitely a likable character, but I didn’t feel like I was able to completely get to know here. Even though she is the MC, I felt like I knew Zach more than her. But, since Zach is a great character...I’m not complaining.

I know this is quite a vague review…but I have no idea how to fully review it!
But I do recommend this book.

Review: "Dead in the Family" by Charlaine Harris

The furor raised by the coming out of the two-natured has yet to settle; some people are just not ready to sit down to dinner with a man who turns into a dog. And Sookie herself is still recovering from her last ordeal. She’s definitely improving, physically and mentally, but she’s always going to have some dark moments now. The werewolves tell her that there have been strange and ominous passers-by in the Stackhouse woods; now Sookie is about to come face-to-face with one of her more distant relatives..

Review: Charlaine Harris has a very imaginative mind, that much is obvious, but it seems that it's lost in translation by the time it makes it to the page.

Dead in the Family is about the aftermath of the Fae War that happened in the previous book--Dead and Gone. Family, be it Sookie's, Eric's, Bill's, or even Sam's, is the main focus. Claude, Sookie's fairy cousin comes to live with her because he feels lonely after his sister Claudine's death. Sookie gets a visit from her telepathic nephew, Hunter--her cousin Hadley's son. And Eric gets a visit from his maker, Appius Livius Ocella. Of course a slew of other people both good and bad come in.

Sadly, I feel Charlaine Harris just isn't as interested in this series as her readers are. Instead of writing what she feels is right, she's just writing what she thinks we want to see.

I'm still Team Eric, but I loved any interaction with Sam. I've always loved him and if the series continues, I hope he's in it more and more.

Any time confrontation or danger happened it seemed to wrap up so nicely and without a hitch. Anytime something happened it would take up a page or two, but the most random things that were of no importance took up pages...even a chapter or two! Kind of aggravating!

I'm a fan of all the characters but we don't get too much depth with them!

I'm going to continue to read this series because I enjoy this world. I just wish Charlaine Harris would put more heart into it.

P.S. If you're a fan of True Blood, how do you feel about the way the writers and Alan Ball have taken the series!? I'm actually annoyed by it and wish Charlaine Harris would help them along. This is a great series, just not well told. But the show is like a circus! Ugh!

1. What is your favorite kind of potato chip?
I love Lay's Flamin' Hot potato chips! But plain chips and Ruffle Cheddar & Sour Cream are close runner-ups! :)

2. Do you make your bed everyday?
Most of the time, yes. Now that I've moved my room around & pulled my bed away from the wall, it's a lot easier!

3. How often do you go to the hair salon?
Once or twice a year. I don't care to cut my hair that often. I cut about 6inches off the last visit & now I just want it to grow out, so if I go, it'll be for a trim. If I wanted a more intense dye, I'd go to a salon, otherwise I just do it myself! :)

4. What do you dip your French fries in?
Ketchup. Sometimes I'll try honey mustard or BBQ sauce...but I prefer ketchup. But I like curly fries the best--Arby's--and I don't dip those in anything!!

5. Do you shop with coupons?
I'm not the shopper of the house, but I do love the coupons. Especially when I need something; I hate asking for something! I also go through most Sunday's & clip clip away! I know when I do my own shopping I'll be using them A LOT!! :)

Do you use a rating system for your reviews and if so, what is it and why?
I do use a rating system for the books I read. The way I rate is in the sidebar over there →!
The reason I have a rating system is because it's easier to let people know how I liked a book at first glance. But I also am a little picky the way I rate. Five stars doesn't always mean I loved the plot...it usually differs the reason I rate something, so I recommend that you read my entire review before you assume I gave it a five star rating because it was amazing or one star because it was horrible.
If I give a book a half rating I usually round up, unless I don't think it's completely worthy of whatever is the next star.
Which I try to tell you. :)

Review: "Imprinted Souls" by Daniele Lanzarotta

It would take a different type of imprint to bring Lexi back to life, but that imprint would come with a price. The dangers of being with a vampire who still has strong ties to his human life, and the possibility of losing what is left of her connection with her one and true soul mate, Matt; a hidden connection that still lives within the shadows of what is left of her soul.

Summary: I wouldn’t have known about this book if it weren’t for goodreads “giveaway page”. I read about it and it sounded really interesting. Unfortunately it’s only available online, so I asked the library to order it.

When I got it home, I realized how absolutely small it is—195 pages. So you could end up reading this book in a few hours.

So much happens in the first 100 pages that you don’t really have time to get to know the other characters. I had a hard time deciding if I liked Tyler or if I felt Matt was someone she should be mourning deeper.

In about 120 pages, she goes to Italy, meets two vampires, falls in love, loses someone close to her, and moves to New York—originally from Florida. Basically you don’t have time to really think too much. Which to be honest, I liked. I never felt like the book was dragging on, and even though so much happens in such a short span of time I didn’t feel like there needed to be much more said.

I’m sure some of you would like me to compare this to Twilight (or any other popular vampire book), but guess what….I’m not! You’ll have to read for yourself. This is such a quick read. I enjoyed it and am excited for the sequel, Bloodlust, can’t wait to see what happens. I enjoy the quick read of this one, but I kind of hope that there’s more depth and emotion.

Review: "Heavenly" by: Jennifer Laurens

Review: First, I have to say that Jennifer Laurens is probably the nicest author—ever. (I will be doing an interview and giveaway with her soon, so stay tuned.)
Even though I am an atheist (one who doesn’t believe there is a god or “otherworldly” being) I do not judge a book by its contents or what the main subject is about. And Heavenly sounded like a really interesting book, so I was excited to win it (especially a signed copy—along with its sequel, Penitence).

Zoe is a senior in high school who may have an addiction to alcohol, the attention of boys, an autistic little sister and a brother who is a pothead and all is a huge burden she carries around with her.

Then she meets her sister, Abria’s, guardian angel Matthias. Of course, she doesn’t yet know the he is an actual angel, sent from heaven to look over her unpredictable sister. She darts through cars and reacts before anyone else can think.

It is quite obvious that the connection between Zoe and Matthias is immediate and imminent. And the attraction Zoe feels for Matthias is well expressed on page.

I loved Zoe’s independence and that she didn’t care too much of what others thought about her (to some degree) but she still had a big heart and just wanted the people she loved to be happy. Even if she wasn’t winning in the end. Of course, as a human, she had the selfish thoughts that if her brother would stop smoking pot and if her sister weren’t autistic her life would be easier.

I will say that I was a little upset with the ending, not in a “oh my gosh, did that really happen” kind of way, just the “well, isn’t there another option…I think there could’ve been another option.”

I did read the preview to Penitence and was confused, as was most likely the point.
I have a few books lined up to read, but I’m definitely reading Penitence soon.
I found myself emotional in some parts, even felt the sting of tears threatening to appear….didn’t actually cry…but there was some sniffling.

Review: "Lost For Words" by: Alice Kuipers

All Sophie wants to do is forget. But it's not easy now that everything's changed. The house feels too big, school drags on for too long, lights are too bright, the room spins, and her hands get sweaty for no reason. And she can't remember why she was ever best friends with Abigail, who is obsessed with parties and boys. Only the new girl, Rosa-Leigh, with her prose poems and utter confidence, might understand. But talking to her seems impossible.
Lost in memories of the life she once had, Sophie retreats into herself. But there's only so long she can keep everything bottled up inside before she explodes. Maybe by confronting the tragedy of her past she'll figure out how to fix her future.

Review: I love a book that’s written in full journal form. It seems more personal. But this book was just…good. The best book(s) I’ve read in journal form is the Jessica Darling series by Megan McCafferty.
But I’m not going to compare the two.
This is about a girl who has become lost and depressed since the death of her older sister, Emily. After going to therapy, her therapist suggests taking to keeping a journal. Throughout the journal we slowly get bits and pieces as to how her sister died. I will say I didn’t expect it. At all. It’s sad, and the way that she tells about that day is definitely sad and heartbreaking—didn’t bring me to tears—but I felt her emotion and pain.
I did enjoy what little we got from the other characters in the book, especially Rosa-Leigh, I love the artsy, poem writing people in books…and she was Canadian. So of course in my mind, she had a serious Canadian accent, eh. I do wish we got to see more with her, but this is written in journal form. So it was Sophie recalling the day(s).
This book takes place in London, so, you know—everyone had a fantabulous accent. (And I may have pictured Robert Pattinson once or twice as a character—though he didn’t fit.)
I can’t really get too much into this book, because I read it awhile ago and don’t completely remember everything. But I do recommend you give it a quick read. I like Alice Kuipers writing style and will most likely be reading her other book, Life on the Refrigerator. I have to say I like that title.J

1. Do you watch any Soap Operas?
I used to love the soap opera Passions on NBC. Soaps are ridiculous by nature, but this show took it to the next level. Unfortunately it's no longer on, so I don't watch any. And they were the best looking cast too. Sometimes in the middle of the day I find myself watching some, like Young & the Restless, General Hospital or Days of Our Lives.

Definitely our washer and dryer. It's used every single day pretty much. And it seems there's a never ending pile of towels that need to be washed! I don't know how they're used so quickly.
We do have a dishwasher, but I personally don't like dishwashers. And since I'm the only one who does the dishes, it's never really used.
(I'd rather not attach a picture, the washer & dryer are being used as I type this...and our washer is the load front w/ window.)

3. Do you wear make-up every day?
No siree'bob. I love make-up, especially eye makeup. But if I'm going out and don't want to get "dolled" up, I'll just put mascara on. For some reason, if I'm wearing it alone it looks like I have my entire face done. So, if I were stranded on an island(with people around) the one make-up accessory I'd hope to have, would be mascara! Great Lash by Maybelline is my favorite!

4. What is your worst pet-peeve?
Oh boy, this is a hard one, I have so many. Saggy pants, bad grammar, cursing, using the words "retard" and "gay" as a way to describe something in a negative way, bad B.O......I can't think of just one, but...probably the biggest one is grammar and spelling--spelling things wrongly on purpose!!

5. What is your favorite lunch meat?

Turkey! But it has to be the Oscar Mayer in the thick round slices. I don't like thin cut turkey. It can be deli, but it has to be thick cut. I prefer oven roasted.

Smitten on Saturday is hosted by fellow blogger and friend, Amanda at Another Book Junkie. You find your favorite book to tv or movie character you're smitten with and talk about him/her. It doesn't have to be some hot hunk...just someone who's close to your heart!

This week I've chosen :

Noah Calhoun!!

He's from the book The Notebook by: Nicholas Sparks. And the movie adaptation of the same name....as if you didn't already know that!
It has been awhile since I've read the book, but there are parts I do remember.
I loved that Noah never wanted to give up on Allie, because he knew their love was real.
The movie is one of my favorite movies...ever. I watch it at lease once a week.
Both Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling did an amazing job in the movie, sometimes I still get choked up watching.

Fave quote from the movie: "Well, that's what we do, we fight. You tell me when I'm being an arrogant son of a bitch and I tell you when you're being a pain in the ass. Which you are. 99% of the time. I'm not afraid to hurt your feelings. You have, like a two second rebound rate and you're back doing the next pain in the ass thing."
